Can Gold Be Termed As A Recession-Proof Investment?

The world is now facing a very difficult time as we all are experiencing credit crunch. Bankruptcy is a common term for many of us. Many renowned banks have been closed, and people are laid off from their jobs. The recession has hit every business so intensely that it has left the investors clueless about making any investments. Businesses have stopped the expansion plans, and instead, they are finding ways to diminish expenses for their survival.
The stock markets are also very hard hit due to the economic crisis, and there is generally a downward trend in them. In just a few days, many stock markets in the United Kingdom and America have dropped down by as much as a thousand pints. Bankruptcy and defaults in every business are increasing. It is very difficult to make any investment decision, as the stock markets are having a bad day
People are actually looking for an investment that does not get affected by recession in any manner and one that can be liquidated at any time. We need to understand what options investors had before the economic slump, and how they have been affected, before concluding with any suggestion.
Before the current economic situation, people were happily investing in mutual funds, treasury bills, stocks, bank saving deposits etc. These investment options work in a way that your capital is blocked, and in return, you get some profit on it. For making such investments, there are organisations that grade such investment options and give a periodic report for you to make the right decision. A lay man like us would always use these reports as a guideline for investment. These organisations earn profits by selling these reports to the investors.
All these options were working well, previously. But, the financial crisis has left the investors confused. The grading institutions are no longer providing any reports, because most of the factors, on which these reports were based, are no longer there. Therefore, the people who were previously relying on these reports are deprived of them now, and they do not have any more guidance available regarding the investment. There are so many people who have lost their lifetime savings in the stock market crash.
So, all this shows that these investments are not secure as they can be ruined by the recession easily. Therefore, it is only gold that ensures safe investment. It has been in use in jewellery, medicine and for many other industrial purposes.
If we take a look at the daily news, we would see that every business has been hit hard by the slump in the economy, but the price and demand of gold has only gone up. The price of gold has gone to its highest during this year. Therefore, gold is still an option that is very safe, and it is evident from the previous trend that its demand has only gone up with the increase of its use in various industries, such as different electronic products, computers, dentistry, cell phones, medical, aerospace, glassmaking etc. Because of its requirement in various industries, its demand has not decreased at all. So, we can say that this is a very safe investment against recession.
