You have to know how to write a proper resume to get the job you want. The resume is to get you the interview. No one gets hired because of the resume he or she submitted. But many people do not get the job because of the resume they submit, especially if your resume looks ugly or unprofessional. The reason for your resume is to get an interview.
Before writing your job objective on your resume list your contact information. Put at the top of your resume your name, address, your cell number and your home number; your email address and fax number if you have one.
Keep your objective related to the job you are applying for. If you are looking for a job as a chef you would not write that your objective is to find work as a short order cook.
Next comes your work experience or education background. If you are out of school recently you will want to start with your educational information. If you have been in the work place many years you will want to start with your work history. When writing your resume it is all right to use sentence fragments. But avoid run on sentences. And always use proper punctuation.
You will at almost all times keep your resume down to one page. Unless you are applying for a job that requires in depth reporting on your education or background you want to fit all you have about yourself onto one page. You will want to include an area for your skills. Short and sweet is an excellent rule of thumb.
Skills are sometimes more important than your education or work experience to some employers. Let him or her know you can actually do more than recite a poem you learned in English class or detail how you increased office production at your last job. If you know how to prepare a power point presentation include that on your resume.
