Weight lifting is also named as strength training. Some people do weight lifting just for passion but some do it to loose weight and to tone their body. I have two most probable answers for it. First is that they do not know what to do and from where to start and the second probable reason is that they have not yet realized the important of weight lifting in life.

Weight lifting is such a beneficial exercise that if you do it you will never face any problem of joints in your old age. But there are many myths flowing in this world about weight lifting. The most common is that weight lifting makes your body look bulky due to big muscles. It is not true. Bulky body comes out if the person spend 4 to 5 hour in gym per day. So if you want to make big muscles then you have to spend at least three hours a day for weight lifting. There are many people who want big muscles but do not want to do any weight lifting. They usually take drugs which help in making big muscles. But this is not a good idea. It is recommended that you do not ever take these types of drugs because of many dangerous side effects.

If you do weight lifting for just 30 minutes on alternate days then it will tone your body but will not make any big muscles. Weight lifting helps in burning calories. Even at the time when you are not exercising. Yes, believe me it is true. Suppose you do weight lifting three days a week for 30 minutes and you are regular in it. Now suppose there is a time of the day when you are watching TV. Even at this time you are burning calories. This is because of your muscle toned body.

If you do weight lifting regularly then you have muscles in place of fat. These muscles help in loosing weight.
