The Right Cover Letters Will Get You The Right Job Interviews

You want your cover letters to work to your advantage. Your cover letter shows your potential employer you have the basic communication skills required for the job. Before sending out your cover letter check for spelling errors and grammatical errors; ask someone with good grammar skills to read it over if you do not have command of rules of grammar.
On your letter start at the top include your name, home address, your primary email address, and also your home telephone number and your cell phone number. Always place the date on your letters and any business correspondence for that matter. Then list hiring manager’s name and his or her official title and his or her address.
In essence your cover letter is the top of your application pack comprised of your resume and job application if you have filled one. Your letter explains the job you are interested in. Your cover letter needs to be specific. If you are looking for a full time position let the reader know. If you are looking for an internship say this in your cover letter.
Resumes and cover letters cover the hiring managers desk so you want to make sure you are concise and to the point but at all times polite. If you are long winded your letter will not grab attention. Instead it will be put aside. You want to include in your letter information on how you have learned about the position. If you have been recommended for the job ask if the person who recommended you if you can mention his or her name in your letter.
Your resume not your cover letter lists your work and school history. But if you have certain qualifications related to the job requirements say this in your letter. You do not have to brag about yourself but if the job requires a team player briefly highlight why you are team player and how you are therefore the right person for the job.
If the company requests that you include with your resume extra items like writing samples you can mention in your letter you have followed those instructions. Simply say something like, you will find my writing sample included in my application package.
Research the company you are applying to. Include information in your cover letter specific to that particular company. This way your cover letter does not look like a form letter you are sending out to several companies. Ask for an interview in your cover letter. Take the initiative.
The person reading your letter and resume may read hundreds a day. You need to stand out. You will be more remembered if you politely yet directly ask for an interview. You want to have your opportunity to learn more about them. They can only get to know you if they meet personally with you. Your cover letter is the first communication with your potential employer. You need to put the time and effort into writing it before sending it out.
